Skittles

By Isa Pineda

a lost twin: sourness buds

tart and pearlescent,

an embittered gem;

her fractal lightning stings

plump and sickly sweet,

her sister: plum-dark richness;

her gelatinous pour of syrup

too much for a honeybee

the worker, the craftsman, the killer bee he sees no resemblance between them he splits the family apart with his teeth,

divorcing her from herselves, then picks a new face for her to wear

an amalgamation of unholy parts they invert the pain of one another as the fork of a stinger keeps them stitched before they are digested,

like butterflies in my gut
